Ingredients

  • Fresh apples (any variety)
  • Lemon juice (from about 1 lemon)

    Step by Step Instructions

    Step 1

Preheat your oven to 70°C (160°F).

    Step 2

Use a small knife or a round cookie cutter to remove the seeds and core from each apple ring. This step ensures that you’re left with rings that are ready to enjoy.

Fill a bowl with water and squeeze the juice of one lemon into it.

As you slice the apples into rings, immediately place them into the lemon water bath. This helps prevent browning and adds a touch of citrus flavor.

    Step 3

After the lemon bath arrange the semi-dried apple rings in a single layer on the baking sheets, ensuring they don’t overlap.

    Step 4

Place the baking sheets in the preheated oven.

Allow the apple rings to dry in the oven at the low temperature for several hours. The drying time may vary depending on the thickness of the slices and the moisture content of the apples.

    Step 5

Periodically check on the apple rings. You can prop the oven door open slightly with a wooden spoon to ensure proper air circulation and prevent condensation.

To check if the apple rings are ready, they should feel dry to the touch and slightly pliable. They should not be moist or sticky.

This drying process typically takes about 4 to 5 hours to achieve the perfect texture and flavor.

    Step 6

Once the apple rings are dried to your liking, remove them from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheets.

Store the cooled apple rings in an airtight container to maintain their crispness and flavor.
