Ingredients

  • 2 cans kidney beans (400g each, drained to 255g each)
  • 1 large onion, roughly chopped
  • 3-4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped (about 15g)
  • 140g oats
  • 1 tbsp mustard (Dijon or yellow)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder (optional, for a bit of heat)
  • 1 tsp dried oregano or thyme
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil (for frying)

      Step by Step Instructions

      Step 1

      Prepare Ingredients:

Drain and rinse the kidney beans.

Roughly chop the onion and mince the garlic.

      Chop the parsley finely.

      Step 2

      Blend Mixture:

In a food processor, pulse the kidney beans a few times until they start to break down but still have some texture.

Add the chopped onion, minced garlic, parsley, oats, mustard, salt, black pepper, paprika, cumin, chili powder, and oregano/thyme.

If using, add the soy sauce or Worcestershire sauce.

Pulse until all ingredients are well combined but still slightly chunky.

      Step 3

      Form Patties:

Use an ice cream scoop or your hands to portion out the mixture.

Form the portions into patties, pressing them gently to ensure they hold together.

      Step 4

      Cook Patties:

Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

Place the patties in the skillet and cook for about 4-5 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy on the outside.

      Step 5

      Serve:

Serve the kidney bean patties on buns or in wraps with your favorite toppings such as lettuce, tomato, avocado, pickles, and condiments.

      Tips:

If the mixture is too wet, add more oats or a tablespoon of breadcrumbs to help bind it.

For extra flavor, you can add a splash of hot sauce or more mustard to the mixture.

These patties can also be baked in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, for a healthier option.

Enjoy your flavorful and hearty kidney bean burger patties!
