Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon butterfly pea tea leaves or 1 butterfly pea tea bag
- 1 cup water
- half cup barista plant-based milk (such as almond, soy, or oat milk)
- 1-2 tablespoons sweetener of your choice (agave syrup, maple syrup, or sugar)
- Optional: vanilla extract or flavoring for extra taste
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1
Boil 1 cup of water.
Place the butterfly pea tea leaves or tea bag in a teapot or heatproof container.
Pour the boiling water over the tea leaves or tea bag.
Steep for about 5-7 minutes, or until you achieve a vibrant blue color. Allow the tea to cool for 5 minutes.
Step 2
Add your preferred sweetener to the brewed and slightly cooled butterfly pea tea. Stir well until the sweetener is fully dissolved. Adjust sweetness according to your taste.
Step 3
Warm the barista plant-based milk in a saucepan over low heat, ensuring it doesn’t get too hot as this will help create a velvety foam when frothed.
(Heating the milk too much can affect the frothing process. Milk proteins can start to break down if the temperature is too high, resulting in less stable and less creamy foam. Ideally, you want to heat the milk to a temperature where it’s warm and pleasant to drink but not scalding.)
Froth the milk using a frother until a creamy foam forms.
Step 4
Pour the brewed and sweetened butterfly pea tea into a pretty glass.
Slowly pour the frothed barista plant-based milk over the tea. This layering technique creates an attractive visual effect.
Step 5
If desired, add a splash of vanilla extract or any other flavoring of your choice to the milk before frothing for an extra layer of flavor.
