Ingredients

For the Potato Dough:

  • 3 medium potatoes (about 500g), peeled and boiled
  • ½ tsp salt (or to taste)
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup (60g) all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)

For the Cheese Filling:

  • 150g (about 1½ cups) cheese, diced or grated (mozzarella, cheddar, or paneer all work well)

For Cooking:

  • 2–3 tbsp neutral oil for frying

Step by Step Instructions

Step 1

Prepare the Dough:

Mash the boiled potatoes while still warm until smooth.

Mix in salt, pepper, and flour gradually.

Knead lightly to form a soft dough. If sticky, add a bit more flour — it should be pliable but not dry.

Step 2

Prepare the Filling:

Mix the cheese with optional herbs or chili if using.

Step 3

Form the Cakes:

Divide the dough into equal balls.

Flatten each ball in your palm into a small disc.

Place a spoonful of cheese in the center.

Gently seal the edges and form a ball again, then flatten into a cake shape (about 1 cm thick).

Step 4

Cook the Cakes:

Heat oil or ghee in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.

Cook each cake for about 3–4 minutes per side, or until golden and crispy.

Serve hot!
